Dave Matthews Band
Dave Matthews Band is an American music group that is best known for their unique music and lyrics composed by lead band member Dave Matthews himself. The group not only consists of the aforementioned title member, but also Stefan Lessard, Leroi Moore, Boyd Tinsley, and Carter Beauford. Additional members, former and unofficial, include Peter Griesar, no longer associated with the band, and Butch Taylor.
Dave Matthews Band first began when a musician without a direction, Matthews himself, found himself looking for fellow band mates in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is the place where all six original members of the Dave Matthews Band met and started to compose music together. After taking some time to create the right sounds and lyrics, the band got their first paying show in 1991 and the rest was history.
The first few albums of Dave Matthews Band, popularly referred to as DMB, were the catalyst in their rise to fame. While their first CD, Under the Table and Dreaming, brought them a couple of singles that were noted as pretty good, it was their second album which was named after it's hit single Crash that brought them national and global acclaim. The band would go on to release four additional studio-produced albums to this day, as well as a number of live albums for their loyal fans.
Of course, the band had some problems along the way of their rising success. One notable event was in the beginning of the twenty-first century, when Dave Matthews begun to suffer depression and mood changes from the death of a close family member. As the band's current producer could not, and did not put a proper effort, into controlling them, the band's music suffered as the attention-span of Matthews and his friends wavered away from music. To remedy this problem, their current producer, Steve Lillywhite, was fired after seven years of collaboration. The new producer, Glen Ballard, didn't end up working out well either, however. He tried to change the band into a pop group and ultimately his work was among the fan's least favorite with respects to Dave Matthews CDs.
Finally in 2002 a producer was found that everyone was happy with, as Stephen Harris helped the band finish and release previously recorded songs that the fans considered to be the best work of the band. The band has gone through several producers since this recording, but will no doubt be releasing quality music all the while through for a long time to come!
